Financial services is in the middle of a defining moment. Questions of trust, the rise of AI and the need for more seamless digital experiences are shaping conversations across the industry. The challenge is finding ways to move forward with innovation while keeping security and usability at the centre.
These same themes shaped the Fintech Summit in Edinburgh, hosted by DIGIT.FYI. The event brought together organisations, partners and practitioners to explore how identity, AI and digital payments can be connected, not treated in isolation. What stood out was the emphasis on collaboration and the shared recognition that progress happens faster when knowledge and experience are brought together.
Hippo and Ping Identity at the summit
Hippo and Ping Identity were proud to contribute to those discussions. Together, we delivered a session on identity and access management that focused on a clear roadmap for financial services. The approach emphasised getting the basics right, putting the user first and taking a phased delivery model that balances security with usability.
Case studies brought that roadmap into focus. Work with the NHS on staff identity and with Virgin Red on customer identity showed how secure and scalable solutions can also feel simple and human. At our stand we continued those conversations, exploring how identity can move beyond compliance to become an enabler of trust and growth.

Themes that shaped the day
The summit was rich with insight, but a few themes stood out above the rest. One was the role of AI. It was consistently presented as a tool to enable better outcomes rather than an end in itself. There was also recognition that the next generation of talent will only grow if organisations continue to invest in mentoring and opportunity.
Personalisation was another recurring theme. When AI is applied thoughtfully it creates not just business efficiency but also human value, improving experiences for individuals and building wider trust. Collaboration was equally central, with many discussions highlighting the need for partnerships that allow innovation to scale safely.
Perhaps most importantly, there was a clear reminder that financial services must remain human even as technology advances. Whether through identity, AI or new payment models, services succeed when they are designed around people.
Celebrating innovation
The day concluded with the Scottish Financial Technology Awards, where Duncan from Hippo presented the Best Use of Data and AI award to Aveni. It was a moment that captured the spirit of the summit, recognising creativity and progress across the sector and celebrating the strength of the Scottish fintech community

Where identity and innovation meet
Fintech 2025 was more than a showcase of technology. It was a reminder that collaboration, curiosity and shared learning are what drive real progress. For Hippo and Ping Identity it was an opportunity to share our experiences, listen to others and take away fresh perspectives.
As identity continues to sit at the heart of trust and innovation in financial services, we look forward to building on these conversations and continuing to learn alongside the community.
