For Services Week 2026, Florence Nguyen and Robin Parker shared their thinking behind Access Needs Simulation, a tool they have been developing to help teams explore access needs directly within GOV.UK prototypes.
Accessibility activities can take time to prepare, especially when teams are working through short research cycles, show and tells and the next round of delivery. When that work has to be rebuilt from one project to the next, there is a risk that opportunities are missed. Access Needs Simulation was built around a simple idea: make it easier to reuse that preparation, bring accessibility into the room earlier and help teams see how barriers can appear in a service journey.
The tool can help teams explore:
• Motor and mobility challenges
• Screen reader experiences
• Dyslexia
• Low vision
• Colour blindness
