User experience designer

We are looking for experienced user experience designers to join the team. You can be based in the North West, the Midlands, or in London.

What you will do

  • Work in an agile, collaborative, multidisciplinary team
  • Explore a range of approaches to solve a specific user problem
  • Ensure that the product logically flows from one step to the next
  • Conduct design research to identify ‘pain points’ and to create the optimal user experience
  • Run design workshops and create design artefacts as appropriate
  • Produce of user journeys, sitemaps, navigation schema, and annotated wireframes
  • Create HTML prototypes using a prototyping toolkit
  • Use insights from user research and metrics to define and improve the design, and explain your decisions clearly
  • Build great relationships with your team and stakeholders
  • Advocate for user-centred design
  • Work with the hippo design community to share best practice to ensure high standards, including attending content crits and writing blog posts

Skills and experience that you need

You will need to:
  • A detailed knowledge of a wide range of UX and design techniques
  • Knowledge of working within a digital environment
  • Experience of user-centred design practices
  • Knowledge of analysis techniques including quantitative analysis
  • Experience of digital design practices, tools and techniques
  • Experience of defining and conducting user research
  • Data visualisation skills
  • To ensure a design accessible to all
  • Experience in rapid prototyping tools, for example Sketch and Invision
  • To understanding of front-end development methods and tools (HTML, CSS)
  • To enjoy working collaboratively with your team and experts
  • To be comfortable working in rapid sprint cycles
  • To be happy to sell the benefits of UX design to people who aren’t familiar with the discipline
  • To have a positive “can do” attitude
  • Have great consultancy skills, caring about your client’s needs and motivations
  • Enjoy sharing your skills and experience with your client to enable them to continue to iterate and improve content after you leave
It would be great if you also have:
  • Experience of working in an agile workplace
  • Experience of creating and iterating prototypes
